FALLING THROUGH THE ICE...
Crystal, the groundbreaking acrobatic show on ice by Cirque du Soleil, debuted in Montreal in 2017, marking a first time for the iconic company. The journey of a young woman who falls through the ice, she discovers an imaginative, frozen world & through many chapters discovers herself.
The underwater shoot was planned to create the opening & closing sequence of the show, which projected onto the monumental stage.
The opening sees the troubled young woman sinking into defeat. The show closes with a newfound sense of self, the young woman fighting to return to the life she now cherishes.
Pretending to drown can be one fear for some. Doing it while dressed in winter clothes & skates becomes another. For this reason, the team at Cirque du Soleil sought me out as a stunt double to the main performer of the show.
From learning to swim with skates on to hanging off diving boards to get the perfect falling through the ice shot, it's never a dull moment with Cirque.
